If The Doernbecher Freestyle Collection were the Jackson 5 ( yes I am aware of the fact there are more than 5, but let me have this one), then Air Jordan 14 would definitely be the Michael of the group. Designed by Ethan Ellis, who from birth was afflicted with hypoplastic left heart syndrome, a condition in which the left side of the heart is undeveloped.
An avid lover of the game of basketball ( he aspires to play professionally in the future), Ethan’s design tells his story. The reptilian accenting are inspired by Ethan’s favorite team the TCU Horned Frogs. The “6” on the rear of the shoe are the number of cardiac surgeries he has underwent; the “Lil Rey” on the tongue his the name of his friend and fellow patient, while the laces sport the names of the hospitals where he has been cared for.
The “Doernbecher” Air Jordan 14 is set for a December 7 release in men’s and GS sizing at nike.com and select retail venues. The sticker price is set at $200 USD.
